Artist Statement:

Kazmear Johnston is an emerging interdisciplinary artist from Salt Spring Island B.C., currently creating in Victoria, Lekwungen territory. He is interested in the body, the land and the environments which he inhabits. Kazmear holds a visual arts diploma from Camosun College and his BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. While attending the visual arts program at ECUAD the influence of the body and experiences have shaped and molded the materials he chose to use forming this most recent body of work.

Kaz incorporates his knowledge and education from all disciplines of life into his art practice. His experience and knowledge is used as a growing tool belt to be pulled from as ideas and projects merge and take form. The development as an artist constantly pushes experimentation of what is created. The things he learns and people he meets influence and incorporate themselves into the work. Kaz appreciates the importance of change and the acceptances it. Knowing the impact of the audience, Kaz is very open to conversations around the work, specifically the meaning put into the pieces and the meaning viewers get out of it.
